I have an agent!
I am excited to announce that this morning I signed on with Ginger Clark at Curtis Brown, Ltd! I’m completely thrilled to be joining Ginger’s client list (which includes amazing writers like Tina Connolly and Ursula K. Le Guin!!!!).

My collection got a starred review at Publishers Weekly!
From the review:
“Full appreciation of the more science fictional worlds takes time, as Yoachim circles back in successive stories to add layers to major themes: interchangeable or malleable bodies (“Temporary Friends,” “Stone Wall Truth,” “Grass Girl”), displaced consciousness (“The Philosophy of Ships,” “Do Not Count the Withered Ones,” “Pieces of My Body”), time warps (“Rock, Paper, Scissors, Love, Death,” “Harmonies of Time” “Honeybee”) …. Her gift for reshaping and polishing dulled old gems makes Yoachim’s collection truly noteworthy.”

I’m raising money for Clarion West by participating in this year’s Write-a-thon!
My goal for the first two weeks is to finish revisions on my middle grade novel–Junk Craft Magic, the story of an 11-year-old mixed-race girl who uses arts-and-crafts magic to help some junkyard pixies defeat a hazardous waste monster.
For the rest of the write-a-thon, I’m working on a novella: A space opera with alien-human hybrids! And fire kittens! My goal is to add 14k words (to the novella already in progress).

I have two new flash fiction stories this month! An Army of Bees is in Issue 33 of Fireside Magazine, and The First Snow of Winter is at Daily Science Fiction.
The March issue of Lightspeed Magazine is now available, and my story “Welcome to the Medical Clinic at the Interplanetary Relay Station, Hours Since the Last Patient Death: 0” is the cover story!
The cool cover art is by Reiko Murakami.
Also in this issue of Lightspeed: Christie Yant did an interview with me, to go along with the story. We cover allergy shots, SF tropes, and writing advice. (The interview talks briefly about the story, so I recommend reading the story first.)
The cover story for my collection, “Seven Wonders of a Once and Future World,” made it onto the Locus Recommended Reading List! Really thrilled to have my story listed with a bunch of other top-notch work. A lot of what I’ve already read from the list has been awesome, and I’m looking forward to checking out some of the stories and books that I hadn’t seen yet.

* I don’t track my daily wordcount, so my yearly wordcount is based only on finished stories. My actual wordcount is probably somewhat higher. But definitely not high enough. Generating more words is really something that I need to work on for next year.
2015 has been big for me in a lot of ways. I had 23 original stories out this …
The table of contents has been announced, so I can share that my story “Seven Wonders of a Once and Future World” is going to be included in Neil Clarke’s Best Science Fiction of the Year. I’m so excited to be a part of this book, alongside many of my favorite authors!
My story “Birthday Child” is up at Daily Science Fiction. This is my last story of the year, and brings my total publications for 2015 up to 23, which is the most I’ve ever had in one year!
Tina Connolly and I co-wrote a novelette titled “We Will Wake Among the Gods, Among the Stars,” and it’s out in the current issue of Analog!
This is my first time appearing in Analog, and Tina’s first time in the magazine as well. Really happy that we broke into the market together :)
